PITTSVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT IS LOOKING FOR YOU!

Volunteers are at the heart of our operation. With our loyally dedicated volunteers we provide a service to our community that is second to none! Over the years our calls for service have increased by 60%. We are always looking for volunteers to help us better uphold our mission “To Protect and Serve.” We offer many ways that you can serve your community. Here is a listing of volunteer positions.

Fire Fighter– Fire suppression and fire prevention is Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department’s founding mission. All of our fire fighters are trained to the highest level in accordance with state and federal mandates.   Many of our fire fighters continue their education and become Rescue Technicians, Hazardous Materials Technicians, and EMTs. If you decide to become a hero by serving as a fire fighter you will be one of the most respected people in our community.
Engineers– The Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department has a fleet of 14 units, of those 14, six of them require special heroes to drive and operate them. These heroes are required to be CDL drivers and have special training to learn everything there is to know on how to operate the equipment during an emergency.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)– In 1997 Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department purchased two ambulances and we started offering emergency medical services. Our EMS department continues to grow and receive awards for its dedicated service. Over the last two years our EMS department has seen a 60% increase in calls for service. EMS calls happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we rely on our volunteers provide the EMS care our community depends on. This is not only a great volunteer career opportunity but it also could lead into a professional career.
Fire Police– Fire Policeman are given the responsibility to secure the scene of an emergency. These heroes are depended upon not only by the fire department but also by the many police agencies in our community. This is an excellent volunteer career for retirees.
Cadets– Cadets are young members of our community who dedicate their time after school to protecting their community. This program is for males or females who are between the ages of 13 and 17, and who are looking for an exciting hobby that could turn into a professional lifelong career filled with many accomplishments. Many of our officers and volunteers have started out as a cadet. At the age of 16 you able to start your emergency services schooling, paid in full by the fire department.
Auxiliary– The members of our auxiliary provide services vital to our operation. They are often called upon to assist in fundraising events, and also to provide a supportive role on prolonged emergency calls.   Our department is forever indebted to the services offered by our auxiliary.

These hero positions are always in demand by our community. Everyone will one day require some sort of emergency assistance. Pittsville is getting bigger and bigger everyday and we need more volunteers. No experience is necessary; we will pay for your training. We also offer a free gear and uniforms, a $3,500 tax credit, a $10,000 life insurance policy, reduced gym memberships, community service experience that could lead into a professional career, and scholarships are available locally and state wide. Weather you are a student, a stay at home mom, a fulltime worker, or a retiree; we need you! Be a hero!
